Arbuckle, Dan, St.Clair Shores, Michigan

I always loved to drink! I started drinking when I was 19 and once I moved out on my own (into a shabby apt. in Clinton Township, MI), I started drinking big time. I became a full blown alcoholic by the ripe old age of 29 and I was hanging with people who were terrible influences. Anyways, I went into work on Aug. 3, 2005 (I was refurbishing cell phones at the time) and I got called into the office and they started talking to me about my attitude and things got heated quick and I up and quit (he was going to fire me anyways, I couldn't blame him... I was a drunk!) That same night I went to my “friend's” house, got totally drunk, and got a DWI (Driving While Impaired) on the way home! Not good. So I spent the night in jail and after I was bailed out by my uncle, I told my parents. That was worse than jail! I went back to my apt. and decided that I would give myself 2 weeks to “party” and then I would kill myself.

So I did just that. I was so depressed, I had no job, I was going to lose my apt., and I totally let my family down with the DWI, plus I was an alcoholic. I couldn't even wait the whole 2 weeks and on Aug. 13, 2005, I went to my "party friend's" house again. I drank like a fish and came back to my apt... Ready to commit suicide (I told nobody about my plans or that I lost my job). I downed about 12-15 Xanax (zanax) and hoped they would mix with all the alcohol in my system and I would soon die... I only passed out. I woke up sometime later (shocked to still be alive) and grabbed a razor, I proceeded to slit my wrists. It gets a little fuzzy then, I kept going in and out of consciousness. I remember that a friend at the time said I texted him, but I had turned my cell phone off (I wanted nobody to stop me from killing myself). Anyways, he and his sister came to my place and knocked, but I wouldn't let them in. I just looked out the peep-hole (while bleeding) and watched them knock and then leave. I went back to my bed and cut my wrists even deeper.

An hour or so later my mom and sister, Sara, came over and were banging on the door... for some reason (God only knows) I opened it for them and all I could keep saying was "He wouldn't let me go, He wouldn't let me go!" I was obviously talking about God and I honestly believe the only reason I am alive today is because God didn't want me to die just yet. Sara called 911 and I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and received 29 stitches in my wrists and was then taken to another place called Harbor Oaks and I stayed there for a while. In-patient status (I could not leave Harbor Oaks).

During my stay there is when my mom brought me a Bible. I had some time on my hands, so I started to read it... and I haven't stopped yet! after I was released from Harbor Oaks I moved back in with my parents, went to court for my DWI, and am currently serving a 1 year probation period (which ends Nov. 9, 2006). I am court ordered to attend AA once a week and had to go to a MADD meeting (that was bad), too. So, all I need to help me is the Lord and He most certainly is! I started going to church and became a born-again Christian! I officially accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior on Dec.1, 2005!! I am now a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and go to Bible classes every Wed. evening and attend service every Sunday and an ABF (Adult Bible Fellowship) class before church service. I was baptized on Jan. 29, 2006, too! I quit drinking and smoking with God's help and my family's support and haven't touched it since Aug. 13, 2005! As a recovering alcoholic and born again Christian, I’ve stopped hanging around with my old "friends" (who partied all the time). I am now hanging around with people from my church and my family, as well.

Oh yeah, I also plan on going to Romania in Dec. of this year and stay with my sister for a few months (possibly longer)! I’ll finally get to meet Luiza (my sister is trying to adopt her from RO) and I am going to be a missionary while I’m there, too! That’ll be so awesome! So basically, through Christ Jesus, I’ve done a total 180 with my life and I am so much happier for having done so. Thank you and God bless. PRAISE GOD!!!
